OUR STORY

Mode was originally founded in 2019 out of a hacker house located in East Palo Alto, CA. At the time, Mode’s founder had just graduated with high honors from Stanford University, working full time as a software engineer by day and learning how to sew by night. While Mode’s north star has always been to develop the world’s greatest wearable energy technology, it took years of research, exploration, and discovery to build conviction in a product that would ultimately take Mode to the next level. In June of 2022, Mode’s founder went full time on the business and hasn’t looked back.

At Mode, we solve highly interdisciplinary problems in fashion technology and wearables, drawing from a wide range of expertise in materials science, power electronics, software engineering, and design. We are a team of customer-centric innovators and polymaths, hoping to attract resourceful thinkers who share our core principles and have a passion for bringing extraordinary products to market. Let’s design the future of fashion together.

OUR MISSION

To pioneer revolutionary fashion technologies by bringing the most comfortable, aesthetic, and versatile wearable energy infrastructure to market.

OUR MOTIVATION

Tech-enabled clothing products currently on the market demonstrate solid functionality, but this often comes at the expense of aesthetics, comfort, and feel. Existing fashion technologies, such as heated vests, solar-powered jackets, and LED-integrated clothing, draw energy from bulky power bricks, commonly tucked away in a pocket, asymmetrically weighing down the apparel and awkwardly pushing into the wearer’s body. While a cumbersome power bank may work well for charging your phone or laptop on the go, this is a terrible solution for powering technologies that have become increasingly energy intensive and more closely intertwined with the human form.

As we look to bring AI/ML operations of exponential computational complexity out of the cloud and onto our physical devices, we see a unique opportunity to augment their performance and operational lifetime through tech-enabled clothing, finally done right.

OUR VISION

The need for Mode’s technology is grounded on the simple principle that if you give a person more energy at the mobile scale, they will find new applications for it. Even as batteries improve over time, our demand for portable compute and ubiquitous power will continue to outpace the rate at which our hardware advances.

We see a considerable market opportunity in rethinking the way people consume and interact with energy at the mobile scale. By more intelligently leveraging the surface area and volume available in clothing and numerous fashion accessories, Mode will triple the operational lifetime of devices we currently have and raise the threshold of possibility with AI-enabled consumer electronics on the horizon. We hope to build a future in which having access to clean, abundant, and reliable energy at the mobile level is as simple as putting on clothes in the morning.

OUR TEAM

Mode is actively growing its founding team, searching for qualified engineers, designers, and operators to help shape the future of tech-enabled clothing. If you are interested in joining our team or supporting Mode in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
